Charley Crockett brought the Age of the Ram Tour to excited fans in Omaha, Nebraska, with special guest Sierra Hull.
Before the venue’s doors opened, fans gathered around waiting for the night to start. At this time, free shirts were handed out to a limited number of fans that said “Free Clovis” with a picture of Charley on it.
Sierra Hull and her band started the night with their soulful, warm sound. Songs like “Boom” and “How Long” were sure to start the night off right. Hull and her band grabbed the attention of the audience right away. The performance was filled with songs that included beautiful instrumental solos which could hypnotize listeners. Some instrumentals had a faster tempo than others, captivating the audience with each song. Hull wasted no time in between songs, but always gave a loud and proud “thank you” to listeners. Hull and her band played “Spitfire,” which was written about her grandmother, who remained strong despite the tragedy that occurred in her life. Quite a few of the songs led to multiple rounds of applause. She amazed the audience with her intricate mandolin skills, resulting in a standing ovation from those sitting at the end of her set.
When Charley Crockett began his set, the audience roared with excitement as he sang, “Crazy Woman Ridge.” Behind him was a vintage marquee sign of his name, which was dazzling to the eye, often blinking different patterns to each of his songs. Songs such as “Fastest Gun Alive” and “$10 cowboy” were performed next, revving up the crowd. He played a few of his more popular songs, such as “Welcome to Hard Times” and “Hard Luck & Circumstances” toward the beginning. Crockett also played a few covers of country songs, such as James Hand’s “Don’t Tell Me That” and Link Wray’s “Fire and Brimstone.” Slower songs such as “Cover My Trail Tonight” and “Time of the Cottonwood Trees” had the audience erupting with cheers and applause.
Charley mentioned that he is proud to represent country music. He describes his music as “American music.” Throughout the show, a few couples could be seen living in the moment by swing dancing in the open areas toward the back of the venue. From upstairs, there was a view below of people wearing cowboy hats and the white “Free Clovis” shirts while enjoying the show. After his final song, the crowd couldn’t get enough of Crockett; he and his band returned to the stage for “Waylon Rides Again,” a cover of Tanya Tucker’s “The Jamestown Ferry,” and “Paint It Blue” to end the night. With all of the applause and cheers, it sounded like fans still did not want the night to end.
The Age of the Ram Tour continues over the next few months.
