Noah Kahan at House of Blues in Dallas, TX

Noah Kahan made a stop at the House of Blues in Dallas for the first leg of his 2023 tour, Stick Season.

American folk artist, Noah Kahan, made sure Dallas concert-goers had a great time this past chilly Sunday. Last year, Kahan released his third studio album, Stick Season, and began touring it at the end of last year. He recently picked the tour back up with three shows in Texas. Kahan has been making music since he was a kid, but released his first single with Republic Records, “Young Blood,” in 2017. Touring with Kahan are musicians Noah Levine, Dylan Jones, Alex K. Bachari, and Marcos Valles.

Supporting Kahan for this leg of the tour is singer-songwriter Jack Van Cleaf. Jack will be on tour with Kahan for about twelve more shows. Jack’s style is alternative folk and compliments Kahan’s very well, making the transition from one artist to the next smooth. Jack independently premiered his debut album, Fruit from the Trees, early last year. Performing with Jack were friends Bennett Emery (drums) and Ethan Fortenberry (guitar). He performed some of his popular songs such as “Rattlesnake” from his latest album and “Cowboy” his first single released in 2021.

As the anticipation began to build in the crowd, Kahan finally took the stage at about 9:20 PM. Fans at the barricade screamed with excitement as Kahan began to strum the first chords of “False Confidence” from his debut album Busyhead. He also played tracks from his latest album, “All My Love” and “Everywhere, Everything.” Before performing “Growing Sideways,” Kahan takes a minute to tell fans how therapy has helped him and encouraged everyone to seek help because everyone can benefit from it. “Growing Sideways” gets vulnerable by describing his past struggles with his mental health and how he is dealing with his trauma.

Kahan played a couple more songs before singing “Northern Attitude,” also from Stick Season. As he sang the lyric “Forgive my northern attitude,” a mother turned around and enthusiastically showed everyone near her shirt which had the lyrics on it. Before starting “Carlo’s Song,” Kahan explained to the crowd that he had written the song for his friend who had sadly passed away at a young age. He continues to play it to keep Carlo’s memory alive. He then closed the set with his first single “Young Blood,” only to return for a three-song encore less than five minutes later. He began the encore with “The View Between Villages,” and then began the fan favorite, “Stick Season.” He then, for real this time, finished the set with “Mess” from his debut album. Noah Kahan has already announced a Spring/Summer tour with supporting artists Joy Oladokun and Ruston Kelly.
