It’s a Nice Day to… Tour Again, as Billy Idol stops by Ravinia Festival as one of the first artists since their $70 million renovation.
As soon as the gates of Ravinia Festival opened, the crowd flooded through to secure their prime spot for the evening. Concerts at Ravinia are seen as more of an event, with many choosing lawn tickets over pavilion seating in order to set up their own picnic. It’s a true sign that summer is here when blankets and folding chairs are staked out on the Ravinia lawn.
At 70 years old, nothing is slowing down Billy Idol. He seems to have been on the road non-stop for a long time, having made a stop at the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre last year, and the Hard Rock Live in Gary the year before that. We are certainly not complaining. If he performs, they will come! Which was clear by the number of people there nice and early, ready to get their “Rebel Yell” fix.
It’s always fantastic to see that people of all ages come to see Billy Idol when he’s in town. You’d be excused for expecting to see predominantly older fans in attendance, but that is never the case. When an icon comes to perform, it clearly spans the generations.
For 90 minutes straight, the punk rocker entertained the Highland Park crowd, donning his signature leather jacket despite the soaring temperatures. Idol was backed by a six-piece band, which, as always, included guitarists Steve Stevens and Billy Morrison. The set opened with “Still Dancing” and also included “77,” both of which are from his latest album, Dream Into It, which was released last year. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Billy Idol show without the hits “Mony Mony,” “Dancing With Myself,” “White Wedding,” “Eyes Without a Face,” and the ultimate Idol song, “Rebel Yell.”
This is a show that everyone can enjoy. You can’t help but take to your feet, reciprocating with your fist in the air! It’s a great night of nostalgia, with the added bonus of being performed by a talented group of musicians. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, Billy Idol still has “it.”
It’s a Nice Day to… Tour Again has dates through until the end of September, with a Las Vegas residency scheduled at the end of August. Get your tickets now, it’s a guaranteed fun night for all.
