Incubus at Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, TX

Dallas, TX crowds were blown away this past Wednesday at the Dos Equis Pavilion by the legendary Californian rock band, Incubus.

Despite the high chances of heavy downpours and lightning storms, Incubus stuck it out for nine songs and gave Texas fans an amazing performance. Incubus was formed in 1991 and consists of Brandon Boyd (lead vocals), Mike Einziger (lead guitar), and José Pasillas (drums). They have since grown to include Ben Kenney (bass) and DJ Kilmore. Their debut album, Fungus Amongus, was self-produced and came out in 1995. Although it isn’t available on Apple Music or Spotify, some of the tracks from the album made it to their 1997 EP Enjoy Incubus. Their latest album release was their 2017 album 8.

Along with the five-member band was their first opener, The Aquadolls. The trio consists of Melissa Brooks (lead singer), Jacqueline Proctor (drums), and Keilah Nina (bass). With them, they had guest Ciano Cioffi on the guitar. In May, the crew released their latest single “Help (I’m Falling 4u and I Can’t Get Up.” They opened their set with “Mine” from their 2013 album Stoked on You. Halfway through the set, they played a cover of The Go-Go’s “Vacation.” The band interacted with each other and anyone in the crowd could see their chemistry.

Following The Aquadolls, at 8:00 pm Sublime with Rome started their set. Immediately after Rome Ramirez (lead vocals) took the stage, the crowd noticeably got excited. The rest of the band consists of Eric Wilson (bass) and Carlos Verdugo (drums). He made sure to interact with the audience a lot and they responded to that very positively. The reggae rock band performed many Sublime covers, but they did make sure to play their original song, “May Day,” from their 2019 released album Blessings. They closed with a cover of Sublime’s most well-known track, “Santeria.”

After canceling their last show in Rogers, AR due to Brandon Boyd injuring his back, Incubus made their way to Dallas, TX. As mentioned earlier, their set was cut short early due to severe weather, but that didn’t stop them from giving everyone a great show. They opened with “Nice to Know You,” “Circles,” and “Wish You Were Here” all from their album Morning View (2001). During these performances, Boyd was sitting on a stool for a majority of the time because of the injuries he had previously faced. At this point, the wind began to pick up speed, and speculation of them finishing their set began to circulate.

They performed “Anna Molly” and “Just a Phase.” The rain had not started yet so the guys kept on doing their thing. During their performance of “Are You In?” they integrated a little of “Riders on the Storm” by The Doors. They made it through three more songs before calling the show due to severe lightning. Technically, they closed with “Megalomaniac” from their 2004 record A Crow Left of the Murder… They were given difficult circumstances and made the most of what they could. Hopefully, the band will be able to make their rounds back to Arkansas and Dallas to give fans an even more worthwhile show.
