UK rockers, The Darkness, release new single “Heart Explodes” ahead of the release of their upcoming album, Easter Is Cancelled.
Just Hawkins, Dan Hawkins, Frankie Poullain and Rufus Taylor, AKA The Darkness, are back and have a new album out on October 4. Easter Is Cancelled will be their first-ever concept album.
“Heart Explodes” is a mini-rock opera which finds them baring all in a variety of heartfelt emotions. Justin Hawkins explains, “It’s about the despair of change. Having to reappraise your life and what you’re holding on to. It’s like that feeling when you just want to go for a swim and keep going. Wanting to be enveloped by something that will gradually pull you down. If you really, really want to survive that process, you can. We’ve all been there – people who say they haven’t are lying.” Dan Hawkins adds, “The difference between the Darkness’ sadness and other bands’ sadness is that we don’t wallow in it. Even when it’s sad, there’s a playfulness to it.”

“Heart Explodes” is the second release from the upcoming album as the opening track “Rock and Roll Deserves to Die” which sees the band hailing the death of the guitar. After hearing these two tracks, we are looking forward to hearing the rest of what’s to come in October.
Easter Is Cancelled will be available digitally as well as on standard CD, digipak CD with bonus tracks, gatefold LP, limited edition color vinyl gatefold LP, and cassette. You can pre-order it now on the band’s website which has special signed copies, deluxe edition and exclusive album bundle offers available.
The Darkness will be doing a full North American tour in Spring 2020, the dates for which are yet to be announced. They will be opening for Ed Sheeran for a string of stadium dates in August as well as taking part in the KISS Kruise in October. They will kick off their UK and Ireland headlining tour in support of the upcoming album this winter.
