Larkin Poe brought the “Summertime Sunset,” some “Bluephoria,” and all the feel-good tunes to the Arcada Theatre for fans old and new.
We’ve said it before, Larkin Poe keep going from strength to strength, and they are still on that upward trajectory. As Ron Onesti took to the stage to introduce the sisters, he said people kept telling him he had to get them on at The Arcada, so he did just that. The audience was a 50/50 split of those who had and those who hadn’t seen Larkin Poe live before, but judging by the comments and reactions from the crowd, it will most certainly not be their last.
The smiles on both Rebecca’s and Megan’s faces throughout the night showed that they were clearly enjoying themselves just as much as the audience was. It was infectious! This was not a band just going through the motions of putting on a show. They put their hearts, their souls, their everything into performing for the St Charles crowd. When you see a band looking so happy to perform, it draws you in that much more.
No matter how many times you see this duo perform, it never gets old. The amount of sheer talent on one stage is captivating. Rebecca Lovell more than knows her way around the guitar, and we swear her voice gets stronger and more powerful every time we hear her sing. Megan Lovell is nicknamed the “Slide Queen” for a very good reason. There’s nothing she can’t do on a slide guitar! Add to the mix some beautiful harmonies and some groovin’, and that’s the icing on top of the cake! How can there be this much talent in one family?! What’s more is that they make it look so effortless. When they just casually slip into The Allman Brothers Band’s “Jessica” – ah, chef’s kiss!
The evening kicked off in their rocking, signature style with songs such as “Summertime Sunset” and “Kick the Blues.” The Bloom Tour brings the addition of an acoustic section, where the whole band congregates around one microphone for some stripped-back bluegrass section, and it works like a charm. The audience falls silent, allowing you to hear all the little nuances and harmonies at their best. During this section, they included their songs, “Mockingbird” and “Southern Comfort,” which suit being performed in this acoustic setting, and sound so different from the original recordings. The evening was then kicked back up a notch when they plugged back in and rounded out the show with the likes of “Bad Spell” and “Wanted Woman.”
The energy this duo brings to the stage is both impressive and infectious. Some members of the audience were on their feet dancing all night in a venue that isn’t necessarily suited for that, but nothing was going to keep them from expressing their appreciation for the band.
They still have a handful of dates scheduled throughout July. They will then be taking a little break before returning later in the year for a select few engagements, so be sure to catch them on this tour while you still can. This tour has been running since early 2025, having made stops all around the US and Europe, but they are still hitting it as hard as they did at the very beginning.
