Lamb of God brings their Omens Tour to a dramatic close in Irving with a night full of pyrotechnics, headbanging riffs, and aggressive vocals.
Lamb of God celebrated the release of their 9th studio album Omens with an extensive tour. The tour spanned over a month and a half, jam-packed with 29 dates. The tour featured Killswitch Engage as direct support and rotating opening acts for each leg of the tour.
Opening the final leg of Omens tour was Fit For An Autopsy. Earlier this year with less than a 24-hour notice, Joe Badolato (vocalist of Fit For An Autopsy) was entrusted with vocal duties filling in for Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe while he was unable to perform due to Covid. Fit For An Autopsy showed their love for Lamb of God by releasing a cover of “Walk With Me In Hell” on August 30th, making their addition to the Omens tour a perfect choice.
Fit For An Autopsy ripped through their six-song setlist with fury, setting the tone for the evening and erupting the mosh pit into chaos. During their set, they performed “Pandora” and “Far From Heaven” from their album Oh What The Future Holds released earlier this year. Fit For An Autopsy ended their set with “Black Mammoth.” The crowd fed off the high-energy set, sending multiple crowd surfers over the barricade and headbanging in approval.
Next on the bill was Animals As Leaders. Their fully instrumental set allowed for a moment of reprieve. The audience stood in awe, taking in the visuals provided by their spectacular light show. Lead guitarist, Tosin Abasi, played impressive solos on his 8-string guitar. Animals As Leaders only addressed the audience a few times during their set, letting the music do the talking and transitioning seamlessly from one song to the next. They created an atmosphere that felt like an ethereal and mesmerizing jam session. Drummer Matt Garstka’s skills behind the kit really stood out during “Micro-Aggressions.” Animals As Leaders delivered a highly technical set.
Up next as direct support was Killswitch Engage. They kicked their set off with “Strength of the Mind,” “This Is Absolution,” and “Rose of Sharyn.” Killswitch Engage performed several of their hits including “My Curse,” The End of Heartache,” and “Holy Diver” (Dio cover). Throughout their entire set, the audience sang along word for word, showcasing how powerful the connection to their music was. Guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz provided the audience with comic relief during the set by teasing that he has seen more violent moshing at a kid’s birthday party and to do better. Adam came out into the crowd and made his way over to the bar to have a shot during the middle of a song. During the set, Killswitch Engage performed “Unleashed” from their latest album Atonement. Jesse Leach, vocalist addressed the crowd near the end of the set to mention that this night is very special because not only is it the last night of the tour, but his parents made a six-hour drive out to see the show tonight. Killswitch Engage crushed a 15-song set.
A large black curtain with a Lamb of God logo covered the front of the stage hiding the stage layout. The lights dimmed as the ominous intro to “Memento Mori” crept through amps. Randy Blythe’s voice could be heard reciting the bone-chilling lyrics. Lights and shadows behind the curtain added to the anticipation as the song built in intensity. As Randy belted out the first scream, a thunderous bang erupted, and the curtain dropped. Randy’s scorching vocals tore through the crowd and the mosh pit became a warzone. Before the next song, Randy addressed the crowd, “What do you say we warm this place up a bit? Are you ready? I want you all to take a walk with me in hell.” As Randy says “hell,” massive flames shoot up and the intro to “Walk With Me In Hell” begins. During this song, every time Randy says “hell” flames appear. Randy is known for his astoundingly large jumps and thrashing stage presence which he proves during this song. One of the times he screams “hell” and flames appear, he does a huge jump off of the drum riser. Fans scream in excitement and several crowd surfers can be seen.
Lamb of God doesn’t let up on bringing the heat, delivering one banger after another. Lamb of God played a well-thought-out set that featured many of the fans’ favorite songs such as “Now You’ve Got Something to Die For,” “Resurrection Man,” “Ruin,” “11th Hour,” and “Omerta.” Randy dedicated “Ruin” to Riley Gale of Powertrip.
At one point in the set, Randy tells the crowd Lamb of God is celebrating 27 years as a band and celebrating the release of Omens. Lamb of God released Omens on October 7th. They performed three singles from Omens that were released before the tour kicked off. Those singles are “Nevermore,” “Omens,” and “Grayscale.” Being the last day of the tour, Irving was in for a very special treat. Near the end of the set, Randy took a moment to talk about Joe Badolato, vocalist of Fit For An Autopsy, filling in for him on tour when he was unable to perform due to Covid. Randy asked Joe to come out and perform “Laid to Rest” with them. This is the only night of the entire tour that Joe did guest vocals. The combined vocals of Randy and Joe were a special way to end a great tour. Randy dedicated “Redneck,” the final song of the night, to Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul.
