Wu-Tang Clan bid farewell to Chicago as they bring The Final Chamber Tour to the United Center, proving they still have what it takes.
It’s difficult to think of an opening band more suited to such a prestigious spot than Run The Jewels. From the moment they took to the stage, they put on the performance of a headliner and were received by the audience as one. The last time they were on this very stage was opening for Rage Against The Machine.
Their stage setup was more elaborate than most opening artists, with their hand symbols suspended above the stage as well as a light wall which helped to accent the performance.
Killer Mike had a smile across his face throughout their set, clearly loving every moment as much as the audience. Mike and El-P looked like two good friends just having a great time on the stage together. One thing is certainly clear when it comes to Run The Jewels: they have a strong following in Chicago who had made their way to the United Center early to catch their performance.
Without further ado, and with the audience suitably warmed up and raring to go, Wu-Tang Clan took to the stage. It’s fair to say this has to be one of, if not the largest, group of musicians to take to the United Center’s stage. Joined by an eight-piece band were RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, Cappadonna, and Young Dirty Bastard, son of the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard. While this is being tagged as Wu-Tang Clan’s final tour, it felt anything but a somber affair, but rather a celebration of the legacy they are leaving behind. It has been a mighty effort to coordinate all of the members, but they have still managed to schedule an impressive 27 dates for The Final Chamber Tour.
The evening was split into four acts, which covered the span of their lengthy career together, as well as highlighting some of their solo endeavors. They included hits such as “Bring Da Ruckus,” “C.R.E.A.M.,” and “Gravel Pit.” The Staten Island supergroup has come a long way over the years, achieving probably more than they ever dreamed of.
This was not one of those tours where the members aren’t quite at their peak anymore but are doing one more tour for old time’s sake. This was a performance as strong as any previous shows. These guys are going out on a high note. Fans of all ages (whether born in the 70s, 80s, 90s, or 00s) turned up in their droves, some seeing them for the umpteenth time while others were catching their first show before it is too late.
There’s only a handful of dates left, so get yourself along as this is not one you want to miss.
