Hot off their Eurovision run, Remember Monday smashed the third show of their What The Hell Just Happened Tour at The Academy Green Room.
With a punk rock show happening upstairs on the main stage in Dublin’s The Academy, downstairs was a completely different vibe filled with fans of all ages eager to hear some of their favorite pop hits.
Two sisters from the East Wall here in Dublin make up the pop-alt band Zeztra, who opened the show and set the mood. With Lorna on the guitar and vocals, and Avril on percussion and vocals, they demonstrated their musical prowess with some original songs and one or two covers. They embodied the perfect mix of raw talent and charisma to entertain and engage with the audience. Their banter amongst themselves and the audience was the feel-good energy this gig called for.
They treated the crowd to some unreleased tunes. The audience particularly favored the one about going through a friendship break-up. This was made evident as two audience members, clearly good friends, embraced each other during the set.
They ended their 30-minute set with their song “Sugar Rush,” which gave them another opportunity to show off their immaculate harmonies and rhythmic beats that got everyone dancing and clapping along.
The three women of Remember Monday, Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull, and Charlotte Steele, jumped onto the stage and were greeted by the loud cheers of an enthusiastic and excited audience. It was a bit strange for fans to see them on such a small stage after having dominated the Eurovision stage last year, but they proved that they can fill any room with their pure talent and skill, as well as their humor and audience banter. One of their latest tracks, “Happier,” has done the rounds on social media with a fun little dance to the chorus, of which fans were obviously aware, as several audience members danced along to the trio’s choreo.
One thing about Remember Monday that draws in such a crowd is their immaculate and gorgeous harmonies. The three sound even better live than on their recorded tracks, as proven with a heavenly cover of “Please, Please, Please” by Sabrina Carpenter, mashed with a rock n’ roll version of Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club.”
The entire night, everyone’s hands were in the air, clapping along and dancing. The trio’s sheer talent is enough to put a smile on your face and create chills along your arms. The environment they created at this show was just so positive, kind, and warm.
To celebrate their time in Dublin, the three, along with their three bandmates, marked the halfway point of the gig with a pint of Guinness. Unfortunately, due to venue guidelines, these pints were from cans, but the audience let that slide just this once for them. They also learned a short Irish drinking tune to finish their toast and show their appreciation for their Irish fans.
They played a fun game where audience members could submit songs they’d like to hear the band cover, and pulled those suggestions from a bucket. They demonstrated their incredible abilities to harmonize on the spot and cover songs such as “Landslide” and “Manchild.” Their ability to sing and harmonize on the spot truly is a testament to their skill and how well they really know each other.
They sang a couple of unreleased songs, including one that almost made the cut for Eurovision. “The Page” is a soft ballad and features very compelling verses. And, of course, they couldn’t leave without an encore of their song “What The Hell Just Happened.”
Their 13-year-long friendship was the basis for their foundation and motivation and audiences couldn’t have been more receptive to it. From the first note, they embodied a well-oiled machine with brilliant stage presence; you can really feel the chemistry between the three friends.
