On a warm Austin night, Briston Maroney and Peach Pit co-headlined Moody Amphitheater, delivering an electrifying blend of indie rock energy and charm.
While on their Long Hair, Long Life North American Tour, the two artists were joined by special guest Bnny. Bnny is an indie rock band led by singer Jessica Viscius. Viscius started making music in 2017, releasing tracks under the solo project named Bunny. The band now includes four additional members including Alexa Viscius (bass), Adam Shubert (guitar), Tim Makowski (guitar), and Matt Pelkey (drums). Last year, the group released their second studio album, One Million Love Songs (2024). In April, they released a deluxe album, One Million and Three Love Songs, which features three additional songs. Bnny was amazing on stage. They performed with a confidence that made it clear they were very comfortable with each other on stage. They performed songs such as “Changes” and “Good Stuff” from their latest album.
Following Bnny was musician Briston Maroney. Obviously, thanks to his accent, this singer/songwriter is from Knoxville, TN. He started playing the guitar at a young age and has been releasing music since 2015. In 2013, Maroney tried out for American Idol’s 13th season and advanced to the top 30s. In the meantime, he has been writing and singing folk-rock-inspired songs. In the recent past, he has recognized artists such as Bob Dylan and Neil Young as some of his early influences. In May, Maroney released his newest album titled JIMMY. The album finds its place in Maroney’s folkier roots and touches on themes of distressed adolescence.During his set, he performed songs such as “Small Talk” and “Caroline” from his 2019 EP Indiana. He also performed new tracks from JIMMY such as “Tomatoes” and “Better Than You.” Towards the end of his set, Maroney brought out a cooler and passed out a few ice-cold Dr. Pepper’s to some lucky fans. During the middle of one song, he pretended to forget his guitar, urging his stage hand to bring it out. The crew member came onto the stage, argued with Maroney, and refused to give Maroney the guitar. Instead of handing over the guitar, the crew member shredded the guitar solo himself. After the Oscar-winning argument performance, the guys laughed and hugged it out. Before wrapping up the show, Maroney performed a new song called “Be Yourself” for fans before closing with the 2018 release “Freakin’ Out on the Interstate.”
After Briston Maroney, Canadian indie pop band, Peach Pit took to the stage. Peach Pit is made up of members Neil Smith (lead vocals/guitar), Mikey Pascuzzi (drums), Christopher Vanderkooy (guitar), Dougal Bain (guitar/violin), and Peter Wilton (bass). The group formed in 2014, when they decided to start making music together after being high school friends for years prior. In 2016, they released their debut EP Sweet FA. In May, the group released a deluxe album of their 2024 album release, Magpie.During their set, they performed songs such as “Drop the Guillotine” and “Alrighty Aphrodite,” both from the 2018 album Being So Normal. Smith informed the crowd that this was only their second time performing in Texas, their first as guests while on tour with Two Door Cinema Club. They performed other iconic hits such as “Shampoo Bottles” from You and Your Friends (2020) and “Peach Pit” from their debut EP. They closed their set with “Tommy’s Party” (2018).
