Livingston graced the stage at Emo’s in Austin, TX, with indie melodies and introspective lyrics, quickly drawing the crowd into his world.
American singer and songwriter, Livingston is a pop artist from Denton, TX, just north of Fort Worth-Dallas. Drake Livingston, better known as just Livingston, gained popularity after a few of his covers went viral on TikTok. He was soon signed to Elektra Records, a label that once signed now well-known artists such as The Doors, Queen, The Eagles, the list goes on.
He first started making music as an adolescent in his bedroom with a MIDI keyboard he bought himself. His first single, “Fairytale,” debuted in early 2020, and soon after, he released a few more singles along with an EP titled Lighthouse. A few years later, Livingston left Elektra Records and started his own label licensed by Republic Records. During that time, Livingston was featured on Macklemore’s “Sorry” on the album Ben (2023). Last year, he released his debut album, A Hometown Odyssey. Almost exactly a year later, he announced his North American tour, The Story Continues, along with a deluxe version of his album A Hometown Odyssey: The Story Continues.
Opening for Livingston is indie-pop artist Braden Bales. This Canadian artist’s claim to fame is his single “Chronically Cautious” (2023) after it took off on social media. Bale’s lyricism is raw, honest, and ultimately what resonates with his fans. Throughout his discography, he touches on heartbreak, anxiety, and insecurities. In May last year, Bales released his most recent single, “YOU LIED,” but he has been dropping singles and a few EPs every few months since he began releasing music in 2021. During his set, he performed songs such as “Hostage” (2023) and “ME MYSELF AND YOU” (2023). Before performing his new song “YOU LIED,” Bales had his guitarist put on a blonde wig so he could sing to a new blonde woman who wasn’t his ex-girlfriend. As expected, he closed with “Chronically Cautious.”
At about 9 PM, Livingston opened his set with “Half Life,” a song from his debut album. His charismatic demeanor was immediately picked up by the crowd as he set the room on fire. The energy picked up immensely as soon as the first notes of “Surprise!” began to play.He performed other songs such as “Architect” and “Neon.” Mid-set, Livingston played a single titled “Brainstorm.” It was released with the deluxe version of his debut album. The song touches on themes of self-doubt and struggling through internal chaos, which almost anyone can identify with. As his show wrapped up, Livingston left and then returned to perform his encore. During his two-song encore, he sang “Shadow” and closed with “Godspeed.”
