J Boog at The Sound in Del Mar, CA

Island grunge reggae sound takes over The Sound in Del Mar for a night as Doah’s Daydream and J Boog take the stage.

Doah’s Daydream kicked off the party, opening up the show with her vibrant pop island style jams, elevating the crowd. The energy that Doah has on stage is electric, contagious even, and as the set went on, the crowd became more and more engaged. It was clear that she was able to hype up the crowd, ready for the headliner. As the night went on, it was apparent that those who may not know who she was before entering the venue were brand new fans. She really captivated the crowd with her energy and her origin story, sharing her upbringing and journey onto the stage.

One of the most popular songs of her set was an incredible ballad she performed sitting on the edge of the stage, with the potlight entirely on her. Backed by her incredibly talented band, Doah sang her heart out as if there was no one else in the room, a moment of pure emotion that left the crowd desiring more. Doah performed a mix of covers and island grunge originals, and ended the night with a beautiful group photo, heart hands and all.

J Boog – an American-Samoan reggae artist currently on his summer tour stopped by The Sound in Del Mar, CA, for an epic, highly-anticipated sold-out show as part of the San Diego Summer Concert Series. The show started promptly at 9:00 PM, and the crowd was eager and ready. The intro included an instrumental moment, complete with a countdown that only elevated and hyped the crowd more.

As J Boog walked out onto the stage, the crowd went wild. Everyone shared in a chuckle as it was observed that the stage techs forgot to place his mic on the stand, which made for a moment that showed his playful side and that he was ready to have some fun. The setlist included hits such as “Let’s Do It Againand “Ganja Farmer,” but the biggest, most anticipated hit of the night was “Sunshine Girl,” the one where everyone in the crowd couldn’t help but sway together and sing along.

One of the highlights of his set was when the backing band and vocalists were given an opportunity to have their own solo moments as J Boog took a back seat to their performance, really showcasing that the show was a whole group effort, not only about him. It made you feel witness to a family performance. As the set wrapped up, the crowd continued to carry the same energy they arrived with; all in all, an epic show. If there was ever a show in San Diego that kicked off the summer and felt like summer, this was the one.
