Alesana at Fete Music Hall in Providence, RI

Alesana headlined a nostalgic throwback of a show at Fete Music Hall in Providence, Rhode Island with support from A Skylit Drive and Scarlett O’Hara.

Scarlett O’Hara
warmed up the crowd for this nostalgic show. The band was not as well known by the crowd but by the end of their set, the audience was dancing along to the songs and enjoying themselves. The band did a great job of not only playing catchy songs that were fun and easy to dance to but demanding the audience’s attention with their stage presence. The singer bounced around the stage, singing to the fans in the front row and getting everyone to dance with him. The guitar and bass player were also holding their own with their stage presence with plenty of headbanging and moving around. The band played hits such as “Witching Hour” and “Talk To Me.” A note wasn’t missed throughout and the band probably gained many new fans.

A Skylit Drive was next up. The set was full of throwback hits from the band, sending the crowd down an emo memory lane even from the first song they played, “Wires and the Concept of Breathing.” The band demanded the crowd’s participation, and clean vocalist Michael “Jag” Jagmin instantly made the most of the stage and got the crowd to jump and sing along with him. He did his classic Mike spinning trick and did not slow down for the whole set. There were even not one but two times when unclean vocalist and guitar player Louie Caycoya’s guitar strap came undone. Despite the mishap, he did not miss a single note and you couldn’t even tell unless you happen to look at the strap or see it pop off. The band kept up the high energy for more throwback songs such as “I’m Not a Thief, I’m a Treasure Hunter” and “All It Takes for Your Dreams to Come True.” The band also played their newest single “Sucker.” You would never know that the band had a break and it had been years since they played live without them mentioning it, the band sounded as tight as ever, just like the recorded songs.

Finally, the headliner of the night, the band everyone was waiting for… Alesana. Many fans were thrilled for this show, even though the band has been active throughout the years and played shows before this, this was still a special throwback show for the band. The band played their third album The Emptiness in its entirety. The album was a staple for many people in their younger emo phases, 12 years old now, but it still holds strong with songs such as “The Thespian” and “Curse Of The Virgin Canvas.”

From the very first song, the crowd was already jumping, screaming, singing, moshing, and anything else in between. The band’s sound was spot on and sounded just like those recorded songs from over a decade ago. The instrumentals and vocals brought you right back to wherever you were when you first heard those songs or would repeatedly play them when you were younger. It was clearly contagious for the crowd to scream those famous lyrics back to the band. The six members filled the stage and all were moving around so much that it was a wonder they weren’t bumping into each other. The energy of the band matched the music and the energy they were demanding from the crowd. The set was on point all the way through and the throwback was successfully fulfilled.
