Kesha is now a free woman who is making music on her own terms, under her record label, Kesha Records.

Recession pop is back, and Kesha, with her sixth studio album PERIOD, stylized as ., is at the heart of it. . is Kesha’s first album free from her ex-producer and his record label. It is the first album from her self-owned record label, Kesha Records. This follows a long-standing legal battle between her and her ex-producer, which was settled in 2023. During that time, her fans stood with and supported her throughout. This album takes first-time listeners and fans alike through Kesha’s journey of what it means to her to be a free woman.

The first track on . is “FREEDOM.” A beautiful piano starts the track, followed by stunning vocalizations. The track then picks up with a funky beat. Kesha starts begins this album by enjoying her life as a free woman and doing what she pleases. “Freedom, oh I’ve been waiting for you,” Kesha exclaims.

The third track is called “YIPPIE-KI-YAY.” The track begins with a plucky guitar and adds percussion shortly after. In part of this song, Kesha sings about getting a new car and meeting at a trailer park. “YIPPIE-KI-YAY.” is a very upbeat, fun track, and the lyrics match perfectly.

Track seven “THE ONE.,” starts with a trumpet instrumental layered with Kesha’s vocals which eventually transforms into an explosion of upbeat percussion and trumpet. When people say the phrase “the one,” they are typically referring to whether or not someone has found the partner they want to spend their life with. Kesha’s use of the phrase is not referring to someone else but is instead referring to herself. This is exemplified by the lyric “I’m the one I’ve waited for.” Because of the phrase being used in this way, Kesha is portraying the ultimate act of self-love by choosing herself.

The last track is called “CATHEDRAL.” A haunting string instrumental and mellow piano start the track, with the piano continuing throughout this song. With lyrics such as “I’m the cathedral, I’m finally coming home” and “who I once was, she seemed so far, I’ve had to sacrifice her from the start,” “CATHEDRAL.” is Kesha’s journey of coming home to herself after sacrificing who she is for an extensive amount of time.

. is an album that symbolizes freedom. It symbolizes freedom from abusive people and situations, for people to be who they want to be, for people to love themselves, and for people to love who they want to. Within that freedom is excitement and fun that no one can take away. Kesha’s . is set for release on July 4. The US leg of The Tits Out Tour with Scissor Sisters starts July 1. Slayyyter and Rose Gray will perform on their respective dates on the tour and Vengaboys will perform at the Madison Square Garden date.
