Metallica Announces M72 World Tour Dates

What better way to start the week than tour dates and a new album being announced by Metallica?!

Metallica has announced they will be releasing their 12th studio album on April 14, 2023. The new album will be called 72 Seasons and will be released by their own record label, Blackened Recordings. The 12-track album is Metallica’s first full-length album of new material since their 2016 Hardwired… To Self-Destruct. The album will be available on 2LP 140g black vinyl and limited edition versions, CD and digital.

The first single off the album, “Lux Æterna,” is available to stream and download now. You can check out the video for it here:

James Hatfield had this to say when discussing the concept of the album title, “72 Seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.”

Along with the album announcement come tour dates in support of the upcoming release running from 2023 through 2024. The band will play two nights in every city they visit. Both shows in each city will have a completely different setlist and also different support acts. The tour will see a new in-the-round stage which will see the Metallica Snake Pit relocated to center stage. Two-day tickets will be available on Ticketmaster from Friday, December 2nd. Single-day tickets will be available from January 20th. Pre-sales begin at 9am on Wednesday, November 30th for Citi card members.
