British legend Rod Stewart brought his One Last Time Tour to Tinley Park’s Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre for one last hurrah.
At 80 years old, Rod Stewart proves he’s still got what it takes to draw the crowds. The Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre was filled with fans ready to catch one last show. Although this has been billed as his last tour, his performance proved he’s still going strong, and these days we’ve had our fair share of farewell tours that weren’t.
He brought a setlist full of hits, giving the crowd plenty of opportunities to sing along. And sing along, they did. The 22-song set included hits such as “Maggie May,” “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy,” and “Forever Young,” the latter of which was dedicated to Ozzy Osborne. This was a show that drew both old and young, with songs that everyone would know. The setlist spanned his 63-year career, including songs such as “Stay With Me” from his days with Faces. He also incorporated a number of covers, which he put his signature stamp on, such as Cat Stevens’ “The First Cut Is The Deepest,” Bonnie Tyler’s “It’s A Heartache,” and “It Takes Two,” which was dedicated to Tina Turner, with whom he originally covered this song.
Stewart proved he’s still every bit the showman, and he still has the rockstar swagger as he kept the audience’s attention throughout the night. He was clearly born to be an entertainer.
The show was everything you would expect from a Rod Stewart concert, with his trademark raspy voice and the rockstar outfits. The ample-sized accompanying musicians and the large video screens helped pull the whole performance together. This show certainly brought a taste of Vegas to Tinley Park.
While this may or may not be the last time Stewart tours, it’s not one to risk. Do yourself a favor and get those tickets if he’s coming to a venue near you. You can add another legend to your list of “I’ve seen them!” The Tinley Park crowd was clearly glad they were in attendance, despite the excruciatingly hot temperatures. Throughout the night, the seated venue attendees were on their feet, dancing and singing away to the classics. One fan in the front row who was wearing a Rod Stewart wig had his moment of fame as he ended up on the big screens, receiving cheers of approval from the rest of the crowd. However, you didn’t need to be an avid Rod Stewart follower to know the songs and be able to participate. These were all songs you’ve heard numerous times before.
There are still a handful of Stateside dates left, along with a residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, so this is your warning to jump on those tickets while you can.
