Jinjer at Big Night Live in Boston, MA

Ukrainian metal band Jinjer brings along Suicide Silence and All Hail The Yeti to Boston’s Big Night Live on their Coming to America 2021 Tour.

Pulling up to the venue just before doors opened, was a sea of metalheads waiting in line. This is somewhat of an unfamiliar site for this fairly new facility.

Upon entering the venue, the first thing you noticed was the stage set up with illuminated candles surrounding the drum kit. There was also an ancient type drape lined with candles, skulls, and flowers on the stage. This was for the first band All Hail The Yeti. They brought their unique style to the stage. Members of the band came out with partially painted faces. Once on the stage, they didn’t waste any time. What they were about to deliver was a hard-hitting heavy performance. Since they were the first opening band, they didn’t have much time to do an entire set as the night was packed with a full lineup. Their opening song, “Suicide Woods” from their self-titled 2016 release, got the crowd quickly full of excitement. After a few more punchy songs, “Ding Dong the Witch Is Dead” from the wizard of Oz, was heard playing through the speakers. Lead Singer Connor Garrity announced to the crowd, “This song is about a girl I once knew, which became “Witch Is Dead.” They played a few more songs and it was time for them to end their short set. They ended with their final song of the night “After The Great Fire.”

Up next was the mighty Suicide Silence. As soon as they started playing, you could instantly feel the new venue’s floor rumble under your feet. They entered the stage and began playing “Unanswered,” from their album The Cleansing. Before the third song, the lead singer pointed to a fan in the crowd and asked him if he knew what the wall of death is. He nodded his head and got into position. The singer then yelled, ” Let’s start it UP.” Before long it was total mayhem, bodies flying everywhere. The set was packed with brutal, heavy songs. Before the song “Hold Me Up Hold Me Down,” the singer announced to the crowd, “Be sure to thank all the security, all the guys in the back, people at the soundboard, and all the bartenders. Without them, we wouldn’t be here.” They continued to end their short set with “No Pity For A Coward.”

Next to hit the stage was who the fans had been waiting for, Ukrainian metal band Jinjer led by Tatiana Shmayluk. The stage lights were dimmed to show off the glow of Tatiana’s unique eyeliner among other black light-type objects. Tatiana jumped to the front and started to deliver, singing the song “Call Me a Symbol.” They continued without interruption to play a mix of songs, such as “Pit of Consciousness,” “Judgement (& Punishment),” and also “Teacher Teacher.” There were mosh pits, crowd surfers, and total chaos all through the club. The fans were giving off a vibe full of energy and excitement. Before long, Tatiana told the amped-up crowd, “This next song is dedicated to all the Wallflowers out there.” The plucking of the guitar intro got the crowd screaming with excitement. Soon after, the amazing show was coming near an end with just a few songs left. The fans were having the time of their lives. After what was to be their last song of the set “Colossus,” there was a brief encore. Jinjer’s amazing show was concluded with their final song of the evening “Vortex” which left fans desperately wanting more.
