Punk-rockers Billy Idol and Joan Jett join forces, kicking off the second US leg of the It’s A Nice Day To…Tour Again! in Tinley Park.
When you see one of these legendary names on a lineup, you know you have to get tickets. When you see them both on the same lineup, it’s a done deal – you HAVE to go! It’s not every day that you get to see two legendary punk rockers, but this was certainly a Nice Day To…
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts had an expanded slot for their opening performance, with their set lasting a whole hour, rather than the typical 30 minutes openers usually get. However, as we have already established, this was not your average opening act.
Jett’s set included iconic hits such as “Cherry Bomb,” “Crimson & Clover,” and “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” – the latter of which saw the audience take to their feet to show their appreciation. The performance was rounded out with “Bad Reputation.” The Godmother of Punk had the crowd singing along throughout her set, showing her the respect and honor she deserves.
As the amphitheater’s crowd piled in, it was clear to see that this show attracted fans of all ages. Multiple generations of families all came to enjoy an evening of punk rock together.
As the lights dimmed, a red outline of Billy Idol‘s face was illuminated at the back of the stage, garnering a thunderous cheer from the audience. As Idol strode out to center stage, they kicked the evening off with “Still Dancing” from Dream Into It, his first new album in over a decade. A number of songs from the new album were performed throughout the evening, including “77,” which features Avril Lavigne on the recorded version. Idol explained that Lavigne was not there to accompany him on this song, so that they were “stuck with little old me.”
Along with the new material, Idol made sure to include the iconic hits such as “Eyes Without A Face,” “White Wedding,” “Rebel Yell,” and “Dancing With Myself,” among others. Regardless of the various age groups present, these are all songs that everyone knows and loves, and they were able to sing along.
Longtime collaborator of Idol’s, Steve Stevens shone throughout the evening but was given his time in the spotlight for his own solo session. The trio of Idol, Stevens, and fellow guitarist Billy Morrison are a powerful combination and are always a pleasure to see together on stage.
The It’s A Nice Day To…Tour Again! tour has dates scheduled through until the end of September before heading to South America for the remainder of the tour. Click the links below to secure your tickets now.
